Witney to Burford - Following the River Windrush
Rating: 4.3 / 5
Distance: 11 miles
Another great countryside hike. This time me and my father hiked in the Cotswolds National Landscape.
I feel it's important to say that Witney is not that easy to get to via public transport, as there is no railway station there.
However, me and my father travelled by car to the town, found a parking space in a residential area (as all the main car parks seemed to have a maximum stay 2 hours) and then hiked along the River Windrush valley to Burford.
The route went via Crawley, Minster Lovell Hall and Dovecote ruins, Asthall, Swinbrook & Widford.
My favourite part was seeing the Minster Lovell ruins, absolutely amazing site. I also liked seeing St Oswald's Church in Widford and all the Cotswold style of architecture and peaceful countryside.
My least favourite part was having to take my boots off because the path was flooded ! I didn't fancy having wet boots all day. Also near the start at Witney, we had to take a detour because the river was flooded. I wouldn't hike this during a wet period.
We caught the bus back from Burford to Witney.
Would recommend!
