About Me!
Hi everyone! My name is Rob Hunter. I developed a love for walking in the lockdown - where I went on a walk every day. I have kept this up and increased my distances ever since. I find being outdoors and hiking in nature so great for my mental health (I notice it really helps low moods and any anxiety I'm dealing with).
Photography is what really motivates me to try out new hikes because if you're doing the same hikes over and over it can get a bit boring getting the same photographs :) That's why I like to do a lot of route planning and find interesting hikes around the South East of England.
I decided to create this resource after I realised I have done many hikes already that could be of interest to other people. This website has given me even more motivation to try hiking in different areas. I hope for one day for this website to cover the whole of England!
I use to be a keen cyclist and a bicycle tourist, who cycled from Hertfordshire to several European countries on different tours. My longest tour I ever cycled was from where I live in Hertfordshire to Poznan, Poland (catching the ferry from Essex to the Netherlands). However due to experiencing sciatica I had to take a break from cycling. My passion is now hiking which is just as enjoyable. As wrote about in my “Long European hike” page I hope to hike in the European continent in stages over the coming years. In 2023, I hiked from London to Portsmouth. This was a great adventure. My plan for the next stage is to catch a ferry to France from Portsmouth and hike 70 or so miles along the Normandy coast. The link for a write up on my long European hike is at the bottom of the page.
If interested, I managed to get into Surrey Live online newspaper for my London to Portsmouth Hike. The link is also at the bottom of the page!
I work two jobs, one being an animal care assistant at a local animal shelter. My other job is a peer support worker for a mental health team. I do these hikes when the weather is reasonable and I haven’t got any other commitments / work.
Thank you for reading! Have a great day.
