Chorleywood to Rickmansworth!

Rating: 3.3 / 5

Distance: 5 miles

A good local hike to me that goes via The Swillett park and then down a track to Heronsgate. There are some good views walking down this path and at the end of the track it opens up to a big field that normally has a whole bunch of a cows (growing up I often got chased by cows in this field but have had no problems recently). There is also a view of the M25 bridge. After crossing over the motorway bridge you descend down a track to Woodoaks Farm. There is a great cafe there and lots going on at Woodoaks farm, including a few farm animals. When me and my father hiked this there were a whole bunch of tents and the barn was decorated. I believe it was someone's 50th birthday celebration.

After Woodoaks me and my father took a short detour to Maple Lodge Nature Reserve. I am a member there (you have to pay annually but well worth it). You often see Kingfishers there which is where on the video below I saw them.

After this was the more boring stretch of the hike which went via the footpath on the A Road, and springwell lane. (This part of the route put the rating of the hike down). After a mile or so you reach a path that connects to Stockers Lake nature reserve. Another great path. I've also seen kingfishers here before. After a little walk there's a river to your left and a very scenic nature reserve to your right. The route then went via Rickmansworth Aquadrome. After I hiked to St Mary's church and caught the train back to Chorleywood from Rickmansworth Railway Station.

Edited the route so it starts at Chorleywood station which is a longer walk to Swillett than I hiked.
