Beaconsfield to Windsor -
Rating: 4.0 / 5
Distance: 18 miles
A few weeks prior to completing this 18 mile hike from Beaconsfield to Windsor; I had hiked from Amersham to Beaconsfield. I thought to myself where can I go from Beaconsfield to continue the adventure and planned this exciting route. The route initially went through some pleasant woods just outside of Beaconsfield - following the Chiltern Way path. I then took a diversion to get to Cliveden House’s main entrance. The entry fee for those interested is £19, unless you're already a national trust member. In my opinion it was worth the price, as there is lots to see in the estate including the house, Japanese Gardens, several water fountains and a great path they’ve created by the river. The part of the Thames by Cliveden is a much better walk than if you were on the other side of the river, so worth visiting Cliveden for that reason.
You can also leave the Cliveden Estate by the south car park entrance, which means you don’t need to hike back to the main entrance just to leave the estate.
I then followed some not very interesting paths through Taplow before reaching the River Thames again at Maidenhead. After this I followed the main River Thames path to Windsor. This was a great walk, saw many nice boats and properties. Also there was a great view of the castle as you got closer to Windsor – which was a great end point.
Both Beaconsfield and Windsor have public transport links and you can get to and from these towns via railways that go to London.
