Amersham to Princes Risborough - the scenic route!
Rating: 4.2 / 5
Distance: 15 miles
This adventure started at Amersham Railway station. I caught a train to Amersham on the Metropolitan line of the London Underground.
I then made my way down to Old Amersham visiting the memorial gardens, church and market. I then made my way to Shardeloes Lake & House. I followed the South Bucks Way after this which initially follows
the scenic River Misbourne. The river looks very picturesque currently with the horses, lambs and sheep and the river flowing through. Especially now that the HS2 works have gone.
I followed the South Bucks Way to Little Kingshill. There was a bit of a not so interesting stretch through Little Kingshill where I was following a road for some time. However soon after getting back on the footpaths there was an alpaca farm ! I've been to this alpaca farm before, which is just outside of Little Kingshill on my route from "Great Missenden to Cookham". There are loads and loads of alpacas there (it's called Latton Alpacas for anyone interested).
There is a public footpath that goes across the middle of the farm! I found it interesting when a dog off was off the lead and he ran up to the fence and an alpaca was
curious and started sniffing the dog. Got a great photo of this interaction.
The route was very scenic after this with many hills. As I was coming down a path to Speen Road there was a very overgrown path. I'd advise people doing this hike maybe wear trousers rather than shorts (as I got stung a lot by
nettles). That's the problem when going off major walking routes - sometimes the paths are overgrown. However it was all part of the adventure for me.
I went via Speen, then Lacey Green windmill & ended the route in Princes Risborough.
There was a bit of a road stretch coming out of Lacey Green (that unfortunately did not have a footpath at times). If you follow my route caution is advised. Alternatively at Lacey Green you can go via the Icknield way but that's a longer route.
Once arriving at Princes Risborough I caught the bus to Aylesbury and then the Chiltern Railways train home.
Cheers!
