Saunderton to Princes Risborough (& a steam train ride!)
Rating: 4.5 / 5
Distance: 13 miles
A hike I completed with my father. It was an unusual hike - as part the way through the hike we boarded an old steam train for 4 miles. It was a fun adventure and the steam train ride was my biggest higlight of this trip. However it's worth noting that this train only runs certain days of the years, so if you want to do this hike / go via the old train it's best to look at the timetable and days it's running and plan accordingly.
The start point was Saunderton Railway station. To get to Princes Risborough we went via; Loosley Hill, Bledlow Ridge, Yoesden Nature Reserve, Ridgeway & Icknield Way, Chinnor Hill Nature Reserve, Chinnor Railway Station. Then caught the steam train to Princes Risborough and hiked up Brush Hill & Whiteleaf Hill before coming back down to Princes Risborough.
Other highlights include seeing the working foundry at Loosley Hill and seeing all the horses at the start. And I thought Yoseden nature reserve was really picturesque.
We caught a bus back to the start point at Saunderton from Princes Risborough. For everyone's information there is also a train line that has a stop at both Princes Risborough station and Saunderton station, as they are both on the Chilterns railways line, so this is therefore a route that can be done by public transport from London.
