Coleshill, Winchmore Hill, Penn, Forty Green & Seer loop
Rating: 3.6 / 5
Distance: 13 miles
A great countryside hike in the Chilterns National Landscape.
I started the adventure at Hodgemoor Woods car park (it's free to park here). I then made my way to Coleshill, on route to the village you can see a view of the Windmill in the distance (if you take a small diversion shown on map just before the Amersham road). I think it's a nice windmill but it's a shame it's not open to the public more often as it's in someone's garden!
Coleshill itself was a picturesque village with nice cottages, a pub and a duck pond. After Coleshill I walked to Winchmore Hill, then headed towards Penn. At Penn there was also a picturesque pond. Not only that but there was a brilliant deli / cafe called Mug and Bean by the pond. I ended up buying a sausage, egg and bacon bap, and a tasty shortbread.
Forty green was the next point of interest. There was a horse that followed me as soon as I got into the field to the gate at the end. I could tell it was a friendly horse and probably just thinking it was getting fed.
The Royal Standard of England in Forty Green was very neat. The pub is over 800 years old! I went inside was thinking of ordering myself an alcohol free beer but there was a queue to get in and was packed! So I didn't bother.
The route also visited Seer Green before coming back to Hodgemoor Woods Car park.
