Great Missenden to Ellesborough

Rating: 4.0 / 5

Distance: 10 miles

Most of the route didn't follow official way marked trails. However, at the start I was briefly on the Chiltern Heritage Trail, and I joined the Ridgeway / outer Aylesbury Ring later on in the hike.

It was a great route nonetheless. The route started in Great Missenden. I made a short trip up to the St Peter and St Paul church in Great Missenden which is up a little hill. Apparently in the graveyard of this church is where the children’s author Roald Dahl is buried. There is also "The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre" in Great Missenden, as the author lived in the town during his writing life. Great Missenden is a picturesque town in the Chilterns that's worth visiting.

The next point of interest was Hampden House. I've been here a few times and every time I'm around there I always see a lot of red kites. I managed to photograph and video record some of these kites. There are some really scenic woodlands just bit further on from Hampden House along this route.

I then went onto Brush Hill, which overlooks Princes Risborough - before coming to Whiteleaf Hill. Around here I joined the Ridgeway bridleway and made my way to Beacon Hill - which was a super steep hill, with great views of Ellesborough and it's tall church.

After this I made my way down to Ellesborough and caught the bus back to Aylesbury. You can also get the train from "Little Kimble" station to Aylesbury / London. And the start point Great Missenden is on the Chiltern Railways line as well which connects to London. "
