Chesham to Rickmansworth - Chess Valley Walk

Rating: 4.2 / 5

Distance: 12 miles

A great countryside hike in the Chilterns National Landscape. It is a popular one for people living in London, as the start and end points (Rickmansworth & Chesham) are on the metropolitan line of the London Underground. I've done this hike many times as I live local to the chess valley. There is a stretch around loudwater on this hike which wasn't particularly amazing, after Chorleywood House Grounds but on the main is an enjoyable hike. Due to the significant rainfall this year at times the route was flooded. I would recommend completing this hike during a dry period and wear boots as you don't want wet feet!

The River Chess is one of the few chalk streams around the world. According to the WWF there are only 200 chalk streams in the entire globe. I rated it 4.2 out of 5, due to the great views along the valley and river, seeing the picturesque Latimer and Latimer House and seeing all the farm animals, in partuclar horses.

I feel the route is more enjoyable starting at Chesham, you can even time it so you visit Chesham market in the morning. And the end at Rickmansworth Aquadrome for sunset.
